Lake Guntersville Fishing Report Month of August 2026

With one of the hottest August, we have had in many years the month of August was tough as the fish were hard to catch after the first few hours of the morning day after day. Sure, we found fish, but they keep changing locations as the heat of the day moved them to the areas of oxygen in 12 to 15 ft. of water. The real dep bite was nonexistent for me as the thermocline developed in the twenty plus ft. of water making the offshore grass areas in the 15 ft. depths much more productive.

We caught fish on just a couple of baits with a 7-to-10-inch worm leading the way on the number of bites you would get. The real early morning bite was on Tight-Line swim jigs and chatter baits as they did chase some as the sun started to rise every day. There was some mid-morning schooling, but you had to be at the right place at the right time of day to experience it!

September is upon us and it will bring some really positive results as the water will cool, the bait will move to the shallows and the bass will follow. One thing I always look for in the fall is the areas in the shallow water where there appears to be no grass and that will be along the edges of the islands or shallow water humps as the bass seem to find bait along those areas and have a fest! Do not be in a hurry to move shallows until you see the water temperature dropping then look to the shallows. There will be tons of bait so your job will be to create a bite as the bass will be focused on feeding on the natural food!
