Fishing Report, Month of November, Lake Guntersville

Fishing Report, Month of November, Lake Guntersville

November has traditionally been a great month on Guntersville. Anglers see some of the best days of the year, especially early in the month of November, and continues to be one of the top bass fishing destinations in Alabama. As the month moves on the weather takes its toll and the fishing slows down. This November we met with some big weather changes we went from cold to hot weather, and the water temperature changed almost eight degrees during the weather change. Patterns changed drastically as the fish moved from the shallow to the deep and back to the shallow water again, making every day different as one pattern worked one day and changed the next!

The second spawn was over as we entered November, but the bass were feeding up for the winter especially during the late afternoons and partially sunny days on the water. November became a month of constant change and anglers had to cover more water every day to stay on their pattern or come up with a new one. The bait fish movement was key to finding active bass, there were days when you couldn’t find bait and those days were extremely tough but when you followed the bait you caught fish. Main river points creek beds and grass edges with bait were key to catching bass.

The fall tournaments on Guntersville have slowed and the month of November was not as heavy as the previous month. Fishermen were meet with some easing of the high-pressure month prior to November making for some better days on the lake as the lesser pressure helped the bite.

When the bites were good the bait selection changed drastically as there were days when the crank bait bite was great SPRO DD 60 and DD 70 allowed you to make great catches when you found the correct depth. Tight-Line swim jigs still became a great catcher for me as the bass moved in and out of the depths with the weather changes. The jerk bait bite became front and center as the Duckett sinking jerk bait was a great bait during the cold part of November as they moved deep during those cold days.

Tips for November was reaction baits, following the bait fish, covering water efficiently with search baits and spending time on the water in the late part of the day for peak activity was paramount as it produced really well! Adjusting from cold water techniques to warming trends techniques was key. Lastly, your electronics were paramount to finding bait and schooling bass.
