Best Bass Fishing Lure for Fall
Every year the fall bite has its slow down period as bait is plentiful this time of year and getting bass to hit an artificial bait can be a big challenge. This year has been no different there are bait balls everywhere and the largemouth bass are attracted to the gobs of available bait for their food source. Basically, ignoring most artificial baits!
There are a couple of ways to focus on bass in the fall one of those is to attract them with reaction baits by appealing to their sense of aggressiveness, and get them competing, the other is to give them feeding baits that move slowly and appeal to the lazy bass that are looking for an easy meal. Either can work the first one requires competing bass and the other just easy feeding fish.
My favorite competing lures are swim jigs that bounce and move over and through bottom structure; ones that will easily pull through the grass or stumps on the bottom. Chatter baits are also highly effective especially if the bass are in the mid to upper water column. For top feeding aggressive bass, I like rattle baits in the fall, or spinner baits, if you find schooling bass nothing is more effective. The lazy feeding bass are different, one bait that I really like in the fall is a jerk bait; a jerk bait can really attract a slow feeding fish as you can generally pause it and let the water movement let it rock and attract a slow feeding bass as a long pause is deadly in the fall. Another is the traditional soft plastic like a worm or a crawfish style plastic; there effectiveness over time has been proven for many years and will remain so for many more to come. There is no bait that has survived the test of time like a worm has. Worms, creature bait imitations, speed tails are amazingly effective soft plastic looks in the fall. The key is how you present it; the angle you present it at and the amount of speed or lack of it you move it with. Patience is everything in the fall especially if the bass are slow feeders.
