Best Time to Fish Lake Guntersville

Best Time to Fish Lake Guntersville

Over my many years of guiding on Lake Guntersville, one thing stands out to me about the lake; that being if you are looking for the best month to be on Guntersville, it is by all means the month of May. Not only does my history, recorded records and gut tell me it is the best month, but the weather tells me as May can be described as the most consistent weather of the spring. The weather changes are at a minimum, the bass are consistently located in the same areas, the same depth, and the same patterns day in and day out. This consistency allows a weekend fisherman to fish one weekend in May and go back to the same areas and depths using the same tactics and patterns the next weekend and your fish are more than likely still there. Bait usage is consistent, time of day is consistent, and the bass are consistent, allowing you to catch bass with repeat techniques day in and day out in May. It is not extremely hot, we get late showers, and the bass are active as they are feeding up from the spawn and we see the shad spawn as well as the brim bedding in May adding to the feeding patterns of bass in the month of May.

If you are a weekend fisherman and trying to get to the water a couple of times during the month; May is your month to jump on it! Post spawn fishing is always fun, but the month of May can make it a little easier. I always suggest to my corporate customers come in May as it offers them the ability to nearly guarantee that their clients will have an enjoyable day on the lake.

Do not be fooled by the thought that there is not any big fish because it is post spawn as many times the spawn will last into early May and the increased feeding habits of the bass during the post spawn adds weight to them quickly after the spawn. The bass are big, aggressive, and active in May, there is plenty of bait as the shad-spawn insures it and you will enjoy or reap the rewards every year in May on Lake Guntersville!
