Time on the Water is Everything
Over my many years of professional fishing the one thing that I always come back too is spending time on the water is just irreplaceable; nothing you can do will mean as much to success as spending time fishing. It is just a pure fact you can fish all your life but as soon as you take time off, say a couple of weeks, the fish have moved, and you can be lost until you get back staying on top of the changing patterns.
The same thing applies to the time you spend just trying to be a weekend angler, hitting the water one weekend a month makes it tough to be successful, sure you can catch a few fish but having the kind of success we all want means spending time on the water. Patterns change, bites change areas and fish behavior changes when you’re off the water. The problem is we all work or have responsibilities that drive our everyday lives and force us to do things that can make it tough to be successful every time you’re on the water. There is just no way most fisherman can spend the time it takes to satisfy our egos, so we have the kind of results that we all want. We all have responsibilities, and we all have to take time off the water; the point being enjoying your time on the water its precious.
If your serious about wanting to be successful, all you can do is spend the time you can spare on the water so you learn the adjustments you have to make so when things change like weather, which could be wind or cold or pressure changes you have experience and knowledge to fall back too so you adapt to the conditions. Time of year patterns are also important as experience give you the knowledge it takes to know what the fish should be doing and give a starting point whether its, fall, winter or spring you have knowledge that will guide you so your experiences lead you to the fish and patterns that the fish should be in. Time on the water is everything, learning from the time you spend is paramount, be a knowledge sponge and learn every day!
