Common Offshore Mistakes for Summer Fishing on Lake Guntersville

It is never too late to increase your knowledge, especially when it comes to offshore fishing as the summer creates a whole new set of conditions for you to deal with. The one thing that stands out to me that most fisherman want to understand in the summer is how to find the bigger fish. The most important thing is to make sure that you do not leave bites quickly; schools of fish seem to reload throughout the day and leaving fish to find fish can be a day changing mistake in the summer. Of course, when to leave is the question but one thing is certain you must just establish a sense of when it is the right time and that is sometimes not easy!

Grass lines create areas of safety for bass but there is one area of a grass line that you must not ignore. Irregularities in the grass must not be overlooked the change in the grass line are ideal areas for bass to gather for safety reasons and feeding, straight line grass edges offer nothing to help the bass feel safe and give them no feeding cover, so look for the points, jetty’s and change in cover along the edges as this is where the minnows and food source will hide and it will give the bass the most important part of their feeding patterns a place to hide and ambush bait.

It is also true that as the heat of the day and the bugs start to wear on your day the one thing that most fishermen do not realize is that it is easy to fish too fast. The old saying that you should slow down when the bite gets tough is no fools gold; it is true do not let the elements drive you to fish to quickly and miss the bites. Be steady with slow presentations, especially when fishing soft plastics as slow movement entices bites and drives the bass to strike as it is easy prey for them to target. Stay in the moment with consistency in your presentation and when you get a bite be even slower; it will pay off as the summer heats up and the days get hotter!
